The RSA – Heritage
The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) was founded in 1754 by William Shipley. A progressive thinker of his day, Shipley had a bold vision to ‘embolden enterprise, enlarge science, refine arts, improve our manufactures and extend our commerce’. For more than 260 years the RSA has been a cradle of enlightenment thinking and a force for social progress.
